Rare 31 Bertram Model

As far as I know there were 6 different models of the 31 Bertram.

1)The Flybridge
2) the Sportfish (Flybridge with open bulkhead)
3)The Bahia Mar
4)Sedan
5)Express Cruiser
6)One more that was a mostly open boat

I can't recall the name of this open model and I can't find any pictures of this model. I think there were a few pics of this on on the old bulletin board, but I wouldn't know where to start to find them. Does anyone have any information/pics on this model? Am I dreaming here? Maybe there were only 5 models, but I know there were pics of a more open 31 model on the old bulletin board.

I want to say there were really only 5 models in production.

There were a couple of one offs like a sedan with no top, that lays out a lot like the 26, A couple of race boats, mostly using the v berth and engine boxes. I’ve seen one that was rigged as a center console and another with IO’s. Reportedly one offs from the factory. There is also the factory hardtop Bahia Mar, which I guess could be considered a separate model if the SF/FBC qualify as different models.

The print on the back of the light blue one is some big picture. Feels like I’m wearing a backpack.

Not a one off by design but by attrition. The (factory) hardtop express. Understand there were only a few of these built and I have found only mine left around. Evidently the top was heavy and poorly supported, so owners removed it and replaced with a Bimini. Much lighter.

Hi Mike,

Glad to hear you are well.
I trust Bryan(sp?) is too.

There was one (express hardtop) languishing in a bone yard in Fort Pierce for years.
Rare bird.
Then it was gone.
I like to think that someone saved it.

Best Regards,
John

Peter - I believe that is an Express someone put a hard top on.

From the factory they look a bit different

Indeed. Not a factory hardtop.
Also . . .
Heard about the Ft. Pierce boat but never could get a picture.

Thanks for the reply's guys! With the hurricane down here I lost track of this thread. The pics you guys posted of the Convertible Sport Cruiser is exactly what I was thinking of. Very cool boat! Sounds like only a few of them were made though. It seems like all of the builders are producing the "Dual Console" boats now to target the family cruiser market--The Bertram 31 convertible sport cruiser was a big open family cruiser that was WAY before it's time. I saw one for sale on Yacht World many years ago, and wasn't sure if it was another model that someone cut the flybridge off of. Good to know that Bertram actually marketed and produced a few of these.
