winter weather got you down? things could be worse
these pictures have been floating around the internet for a couple of years, with all the snow and ice around it reminded me of them. I guess things could be alot worse huh? http://www.skyandsummit.com/Glacegeneve/images/DSCN7771.jpg http://www.skyandsummit.com/Glacegeneve/images/DSCN7773.jpg http:/...

now we must be getting on other's nerves, lol they use BALSA core , they also have not made a 24 in like 10 years, I talk to them every other month or so, trust me on this one, have cut into quite a few of them. They even use it on thier transoms and bulkheads. They also do not use kevlar on all thi...

Jeez Bob, why dont you call Skater Monday and ask them what they use for core, or better yet just check thier website! If you want I will give you Peter's phone number so you can have him give you his take on balsa. Millions of death trap boats out there with balsa core- ohhh the agony of it all! I ...

Bob, thats kind of like a Nascar driver complaining after he crashes into the wall, what does balsa core have to do with what happened to the boat??? Getting in a boat at 100+ mph you are putting yourself at risk, no different in my eyes then going fishing when its rough out and complaining that you...

that reads funny, its meant to read as "I had a different opinion then capt pat, which got Capt Bobby very upset" here is that heated and shaped piece of acrylic I was discussing earlier, took all of 20 minutes or so to cut it, heat it and bend it in 2 places. http://robx-7.nopistons.com/d/2583-1/s+...

it does not crack easily at all, you can drill it with standard bits, but they do sell plastic/plexi specific drill bits, never had to use them. We also did custom engine vent covers for a large Sea Ray with them, beats making custom fiberglass sheets and gives the same outcome, easier on the wallet...

You can still remove a cleat or bow eye from a 15 year old balsa core boat and as long as it had good sealant put on it the core inside is dry. The other HUGE issue is NO ONE ever removes and re-beds thier hardware. How many of your 31s have rotted wood in the gunwales? I know even Capt Bobby's has ...

Buju- I said that in response to pat saying he hates balsa core, no other reason, there was nothing else intended. And I will still say I dont like paint in bilges! It looks really sharp in certain boats and engine compartments, but you still cant beat gelcoat. The acrylic can be had at plastic supp...

I dont really know why you call me hothead? Can we not discuss things here? I am a huge fan of gelcoat in the bilge, for some reason people like to use paint. I would never use ANY paint in a constantly submerged area- I always advocate gelcoat. I did not think I had to explain in detail how to prep...

its as simple as removing the balsa from mounting points, its not the core that fails- its humans that start the process then mother nature takes over. when you have a 10-20 year old boat with rotted balsa core its super easy to see how it got that way and repair it so it wont happen again, for ligh...

I despise divinycell, I have used it 2 times, once was for a light weight race hatch, I vow to never use it again. I do like airex core, but no one ever wants to pay for it, when given the choice people always go for end grain balsa instead- which again when properly installed and maintained could v...

when we did a Bayhead it originally had teak covering boards, when we eliminated them we had to build the gunwale up, so in total the gunwale ended up close to 2" thick, drilling for a water fill I sent the milwaukee drill sideways which swung around and proceeded to smack me right on the chin. All ...

I think you guys are getting a bit worked up over this. While the design of the 31 is a great timeless design, the build quality was not space age. Glass was laid on thick and heavy because they did not know any better. Bulkheads were formica, some had no glass at all- most of them rotted out after ...
