if im reading right you first sanded or ground the wood and coated it with resin, then sanded it and applied fiberglass matting with resin. You have achieved the text book procedure for your purpose, the only way it could have improved was to laminate the wood while the first coat was still green, b...

the wood will probably rot out before you would see the difference, people drill holes, dont seal them, that is where the problem lies. Water entering the core, even if its composite, will still result in delamination and in northern climates freeze/thaw cycles and cracking. You can cut into a poly/...

It sounds like you already glassed your wood, but you have some uneven spots you want to even out. As long as these areas are lets say less then 1/4" you can use a polyester fairing. last year we had to repair a deck that was installed with just epoxy, seems as if 30% of it had started to lift and let water in. Might have just been a poor install. Epco makes hatch pulls similiar, not as fancy but easy to get and only about $14. http://www.epcomarineproducts.com/images/prodcat5a....

the other issue is the wiring, you will either have to move all the wiring that runs along the bulkhead or do what we did and glass a wire run in, we rounded it off on both sides to give plenty of room for wiring and hoses. these are the only pictures I have of the finished product http://robx-7.nop...

if you are buying just the deck and the passageway and you plan on using your existing engine boxes you will require EXTENSIVE fiberglass work to that passage way to work. I also feel it was designed around diesel motors because it does not fit in any dimension whatsoever on a gas powered 31. we cut...

Tom Ray used to trailer his 38 scarab in and out, he would take the boat out of the water every 2 weeks, scrub the imron bottom, leave it out for a few days, and drop it back in- a hassle but do-able even with the shallow south shore waters. the smaller air hose is a good item as well with the sanders.
when you hook them up to a vacuum, all you have to do is shove one hose into the other, when you turn the vacuum on it will keep the hoses together and take the dust- no need for fancy attachments
we have 5 dynabrade sanders, I love them.

I thought I would share with you guys a tool that we have grown to love. We switched over to these sanders last year, but only until recently did we start using them with vacuums instead of the bags. most people dont read into the meaning of HVLP, they just know it stands for high volume, low pressure- so they assume it means it does not require alot of air. the name HVLP is always a bit confusing to some, when you compare the amount of air that moves through a HVLP versus a conventional spray gun, takes alot more air to keep a HVLP going. You realize this when you first switch to HVLP and you have older equipment or a smaller compressor. My truck mount...
