Lore, Right now Kevin is in the middle of putting the boat back together to display at the Lauderdale show. Before the diesels went in, he was in the middle of redoing the boat anyway. Final figures will most likley be made on the way up to Lauderdale. One of the reasons for going to Steyr was reusi...

Russ, Unless a container has an oring seal, its not water proof its water resistant. Anything with a cellulose wrapper will absorb moisture eventually allowing the contents to be contaminated. Cartridges are better sealed against moisture either thru crimping or in some flares, wax. Most primers in ...

Vincent, Shaft logs will have to be changed. My advice is also get the aftermarket struts cause the lower rpm motors can swing a bigger prop and boring them out is marginal at best. You will need 6" exhaust with cummins. Props will depend on the gear ratio you use. You can't use 6" angle on the curr...

Yes they have, I turned down 2 31's in the past with that request. One was a "money no object" deal. If done right, it will work. The main problem is because of the dead rise and the lift it creates and the speeds the big engines produce, you end up lifting the boat in the rear above the water. When...

Thru hull, shaft packing etc failures can be a problem if you don't prepare for it. First and foremost is good quality high ouput bilge pumps, wiring and batteries. Regular inspection of thru hulls and under water hoses and clamps is a must. Second a selection of wood plugs, rubber plugs and caps of...

Had someone enter the shop today who is putting a Yanmar 6LY/350 inboard in his 25 Bertram.
I was very polite to him today and said I would help him at various times when he needed it during his project.
After thinking about this all day and in hopes that he may see this post" are you nucking futs?"

Won't cause a problem if you are using an additive. It also won't cause a problem within two days, but any time you reduce the lubricity of a fluid, you will cause more wear. Mike, The variable turbo is like a variable pitch airplane prop. At lower speeds you present a flatter blade to move more air. This helps to prevent turbo lag. At higher speeds the blades flatten out. Unlike a planes prop which is controlled in the cockpit, this design is centrifical in nature. Past...

Having done many repowers and then having to service them afterwards I will leave you with the following: Ten pounds of crap in a 5 pound bag. Your gear ratio will need to be along the lines of 1.25:1 to fit the props. At that ratio you are losing engine efficency. Your better off with a higher rpm ...

After using PYI for years I have discovered a potential problem. If the shaft is not running fairly straight thru the shaft tube, at high speeds it will throw water. You can sometimes cock the tube hose to better align with the shaft to correct. Also don't push the tube hose on past the flat part in...
