Leo,,
Thanks for all of the good information. The Sunfly looks very similar to the shade that Kevin made. I think I'm going to go with something like that. I'll price the sunfly and if it's too pricy, I'll attempt to put one together myself.

Re: Cockpit Shade
Thanks guys, as usual, great stuff. Kevin, I have visualized something similar to the one on your 28 supported by the stainless poles in the rod holders. I visualized the poles in the aft rod holders so that the entire cockpit would be shaded. Do you think that could work? I'm wondering if you could...

Free 28 Bertram
If anybody is interested, I have a friend here in New Orleans that is giving away his dad's 28 Bertram. It's a project, but it's floating. Has not been run in 12 years. Will need new engines. Has never been on the bottom, but did have some bilge pump problems and took on about a foot of water in the...

Re: Harry Babb: Are you ready for Isaac??
Thanks guys, We stocked up on the clears, wine and beer, so we're ready for this one. Luckily we have a neighbor with a full house generator that has invited us over until the power comes back on (assuming we loose power). Looks like it's pretty much going to be a rain event for us. At this point it...

Looks like the track has shifted from Harry's neighborhood to ours. I had Decoy hauled out yesterday and tucked into the hanger at Seabrook Marine. Here's a pic:

After Vic's second post, I thought there might be time to go up for a visit. If I can get everything together, I plan on going to Port Eads next week. Gonna have a Port Eads Irish Wake in Vic's honor, substituting clears for the whiskey. Rest in Peace my fren, we're gonna miss you. Love and prayers ...

Rybovich Book Giveaway/Fathers Day
Pat Rybovich, daughter of Tommy Rybovich, is giving away 2 of her beautiful coffee table Rybovich Books to celebrate Fathers Day. If you're into beautiful boats, this book is Nirvana. I have one of these books and I look at it all the time. I think Capt. Patrick has one too. To win one of these beau...

31 Bertram on Flipper
This has probably come up before, but I had never seen it. A 31 Sportfish is the star of this episode of Flipper. Fast forward to the 8 minute mark. Pretty funny, if you watch, the cabin in this boat is much different than any 31 I've ever seen. Also, watch when the dad jumps off of the boat and you...

Todd, Would you consider a Bahia Mar? I know of a 31 Bahia Mar with GM 8.2 diesels. It a has a goofy retro fit flybridge on it and a real bad tower, both of which I would remove. I ran across this website for electric engines:
http://www.elcomotoryachts.com/elco-ep-motor-7000.shtml
Sounds like a hybrid engine for a boat. Probably not practical for your application, but might work for a new construction single screw boat.

Peter, The main difference is the size and battery life. The EPIRB battery life is 48 hours and the PLB battery life is 24 hours. It seems like the Coast Guard responds very quickly to a distress signal from one of these devices, so as long as you are not boating in a very remote area, the PLB shoul...
