Re: 35 Bertram ??

I had a 1975 35 with 300hp 3116 cats in it. I would cruise an honest 23-24 knots. Mine was a little faster than the 300 hp 3208 boats, probably a combo between the lighter engines and not having the bubbles in the bottom needed for the 3208s. Mine being a 1975 had the smaller bridge and I moved the ...

Re: Diesel air filters

John, I like my K&N's on my 6BTA's. I clean them once a year and follow up with a good oiling. I think they pay for themselves in a couple years since you shouldn't have to replace them. Even have one in my wife's car now!

John, You need to use the T1 / single grade in the 3126's and 3116's. As someone else mentioned this is a service bulletin that CAT put our years back. If I remember right, the use of 15w-40 in these engines will clog the aftercoolers overtime and you will also see alot of soot on your transom. I us...

Does anyone know if Sailors Haven takes reservations? It seems like just about every marina out on Fire Island is first-come-first-serve.

From what I was told at West Marine was that all the West Marine paint is made by Interlux. I was told that the CCP is the same as Interlux ACT. This is coming from the West Marine employee, we know they are wrong more times then being right.

Used the FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) sheets that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes. These are the sheets that you see in some bathrooms and showers, non-skid / bumpy patern on one side, smooth on the back. Make a patern out of paper, and cut the FRP sheet to the patern. Scuff the nonskid si...

I bought the boat without motors from Tom Oaks when he owned Holtz Boat Works. It was his recomendation to go with those motors. I figured out of anyone, he would know that they would work well for the boat.

SIM, The 350's I have in my boat are Vortek 320 hp's so they turn high RPM. I cruise them at 3300-3400 RPM at 23-24 kts and burn about 22 gph. Those motors are capable (so the manual says) of cruising at 3800. At 3800 it runs 27 kts but I don't know the burn since I never run it their for any length...

My Express Cruiser has 320 hp 350 Vorteks in it. It cruises around 24-25 kts. and does 34 kts wide open. Small blocks can produce the same amount of hp as a big block and have always had a longer lifespan. My boat does the same speed as a big block boat and burns much less fuel.

My fathers 454's had injseted some water a few years back. It was the gaskets between the exhaust manafold and the riser. The engines where only three years old. Water would trickle down the exhaust port when boat wasn't used and wound up doing major damage to valves / heads.

John,

I don't have experience but have heard descent things about them. I'm told the 420's will not hold up as long as the 350's but I would rather have the speed since i don't put tons of hours on my 35'. If I was going to repower I would highly consider the 3126.
