Thanks, I'll be working on the boat this weekend and will get a couple of photos of the deck and post here.

Re: Eliminate side panels - Need filler pieces!

Here is a photo from the site of the filler pieces between the gunnel and floors. Any suggestions?

Re: The Irene

Perhaps you should consider ballast tanks similar to the Freeman's. Pump in water when you need it pump out water when you don't.

Re: Buying project 31. Many questions, but 1st stands/blocki

Ryan, I just had my boat on stands for several years. First, I'd recommend 6 stands. The heads articulate so they will find the proper angle. Once you get the boat off the trailer (I'd highly recommend you hire someone with hydraulic jacks especially made for boats to lift and put on the stands. Onc...

Eliminate side panels - Need filler pieces!

I want to eliminate the side panels on my 31 and finish the sides and add racks/support for gaffs, boat hooks etc. under the gunnels. There is a small area (4 or 5 inches) between the deck and side of the boat that needs to be filled with some material. Looking at a number of photos, its looks as mo...

Re: Engine Compartment Sound Deadening - Bertram 31

Rick, This would be obvious, but all my work soundproofing the engine boxes was done with the boxes upside-down in the cockpit or workshop. The first thing is to make paper or cardboard templates of the surface area to be covered, then cut your sound deadening material. Determine the spacing of the...

Re: Engine Compartment Sound Deadening - Bertram 31

I'm hearing impaired so noise is a real issue for me. Plus my crew are lazy louts and I need to holler at them frequently! They pretend not to hear me so I want to go the extra mile to get the boat as quite as possible. My plan is to spend a good deal of time applying the sound deadening material wh...

Re: Engine Compartment Sound Deadening - Bertram 31

Thanks, I got my boat in the midst of a renovation sitting for 11 years in two different boat yards. There are lots of incomplete parts and some parts missing. An example, is that my engine covers do not have any wood attached to them. Just the fiberglass. Thanks for the lead on the 1.5" sound down....

Engine Compartment Sound Deadening - Bertram 31

Folks, I need some advice. I'm in the middle of a Bertram 31 renovation project. These Volvo diesels are loud and I want to add sound deadening material to the inside of the fiberglass engine boxes and close up areas about the boxes to minimize the sound transmission. I'm going to need a good bit of...

Re: The Irene

Cam, spoke to prop guy yesterday. He is suggesting cupping the props as a first trial solution. Engines are Suzuki DF 200's. Shaft 25 inches. Prop, unsure of size but researched them with Suzuki and went with their recommendation. Stainless Steel Suzuki props. I concur with the thought of tabs push...

Re: Trim Tabs on my 31

I appreciate the kind comments. My buddy Jim started the project then passed it along to me to finish. Even with all the work that has been done its still a pretty overwhelming project to finish. This boat is going to be a fishing machine when completed. The boat is headed to the Bahamas and will li...

Re: Trim Tabs on my 31

I fixed your top image. If you had right clicked and 'copy image location' and then pasted it, it would have worked. If you 'edit' that post, you'll see what I did. If the image is very large, this website will trim it in a way that you won't like. Better to upload images under a meg. Nice work, by...

Re: Trim Tabs on my 31

Thanks for the suggestions. This boat also has a new 220 gallon fuel tank and we've added a tower on the boat. This has been an overwhelming 12 year project but we've closing in on the finish line. I need to take the time to document this project on this board. I've visited the site several times lo...

Trim Tabs on my 31

Hi, My first post on the Bertram 31 forum. My friend and I are refurbishing a 31. I'm about 3 months from getting this boat in the water. My question is whether I should add trim tabs to the boat. This boat currently has Volvo Diesels 220 HP but repowering may be in the near future. I'd post some pi...
