Re: Doug, how is the painted laminate holding up?
So some guys in the boat yard have used the cheaper knock off seadek from Amazon or EBay. They all seemed to report it’s held up well but nobody had it for many years at this point. A roll that you cut yourself wasn’t too much more since it’s not much square footage. I also didn’t go with a template...

Re: Doug, how is the painted laminate holding up?
Well I guess we will find out. The plywood is sealed, it’s not raw wood and my cabin is pretty darn dry. Check back in a few years.

Re: Doug, how is the painted laminate holding up?
Yes sliding door. Kept the fixed section and added the slider over the front. The floor is seadek pulled off the old laminate and it’s glued right to the plywood hatches. Originally was going to pull out the bulkheads for the head and redo in coosa. Which would have been easier for a finished look b...

With Active Captain you can mirror and control any screen. So I can mirror the sounder and throw the iPad in the cockpit when I’m fishing. I can sit in the cabin and play with the chart to plan my next route. Or my favorite pull up the autopilot on my phone and sit back and enjoy. I’ve had some issu...

Years ago we loaded up for an extended weekend to stay over at Fire Island about halfway there the block of my 454 cracked or a rod pushed through. The bilge filled with oil and the motor was done. We limped the rest of the way to our destination and enjoyed our 3 day weekend. Went home at 4 kts on ...

Auto Pilot is a game changer
I guess the Title says it all. As you all know I’ve kept the boat pretty simple; engines, batteries, electronics and a small inverter. I don’t yet have all the electronics networked 100% or the radar hooked up. But we calibrated the autopilot and I can use Garmin active captain to mirror my electron...

Re: Side window replacement
I have a lot to say on this. Cargo nets for the life jackets in the vberth were huge as that space isn’t used for anything else. I’m considering moving my fresh and black water tanks under the deck where people add fish boxes. That leaves a cavernous space below the cabin deck. Also considering holl...

Re: Bertram 31 Slideshow...
If they did everything that was neccesary that boat is worth every penny. But I’m suspect. A previous owner pulled out the genny, which is fairly essential when you don’t have any windows that open. None of the pictures show a new genny installed. Which would have required the engine to be pulled. T...

Carl yes it’s pretty easy as you said. You are going east of ocean beach to the green can just west of ocean bay park. If you head north north east from there a mile before going east you will be fine. There is a little dashed area that you can see just need to get around that and your fine. We will...

Re: Rudders for a Gasser
Rubrail is nice too but for me it’s that a utility piece always getting banged up. 25k installed for new windows and frames isn’t a terrible price at all. I think they want that much for the fiberglass ones when Brodorous Rose was doing it and that didn’t include installation.

12v actuators make more sense. this way they not only hold them open but also keep them shut I agree everything should be closed up when underway but not everyone likes to sit in a closed up cabin. i noticed that problem too after I installed the oversized rudders. I’m going to say something most people haven’t. Yes the oversized rudders are great and I can run straight with one engine now all day long. And with my old gas motors I often had a need to get home on one engine and used what we call Brews bucket technique. You hang a 5 gallon bucket off the side o...

That Bayliss boat is a dream. Looks like it is set up with everything the way I’d do it. Guessing the owner had more interest in the process than using the final product. Anchor locker, teak deck, 360 views in the cabin, checks all my boxes. I was close to the dream with Buddy Boy and after looking ...

Peter, you've got me thinking about your solution. I found this on the WWW, https://activwall.com/products/gas-strut-windows/ The video lets you imagine our front windows in action. Peter, I use my windows all the time too. Mine are heavy. I would think gas shocks may be difficult to close; someone may have to go out on deck to push them closed. Your main anchor line gets wrapped around a prop so you have to cut it away and have no propulsion.
Basically every pease of gear on the boat is for safety first.
