Console Bubble and Base Diagrams

"Fortuna" console bubble design by Jerry Wells

The bridge Console Bubble, housing single lever controls is one of the most striking elements of Jerry Wells' design work.  While the concept of this type of helm has it's roots with Rybovich and Merritt, it is seen on many custom sportfishing rigs, including, Buddy Davis, Ricky Scarborough, and Jim Smith.  It's addition to the Bertram 31 brings about the custom appearance without abridging the traditional classic design.

As of March 15th , a custom console bubble, built of either solid teak or polyester fiberglass is available on special order.

Price will vary with material choice and base function.  The suggested main components that the design is built around are the Hynautic 60 series helm and R. G. Rollin's Solo Controls - (single lever engine control heads).

Pricing:
Two options are available:
1.  All polyester fiberglass, with Divinycell and PVC Foam Board core, either primed in gelcoat or Awlgrip 545 Epoxy Primer. --- Base console:   $1,200.00 + shipping and handling.

Base Console - Model 2

2.  Burmese Teak, epoxy coated with 2 coats of varnish.  (Since some fitting has to be done to insure a proper fit to the specific boat, there will need to be a final varnishing done by the owner.) --- Base console:   $1,500.00 + shipping and handling.
Depending on the center set use, (electronics, gauges, etc.), and whether or not set-up for hydraulic operation, the additional labor time would be between 10 and 15 hrs @ $35.00 per hour.  Custom cut and fitted bezel and glass for gauge cluster is sold separately.  Chrome over brass --- $475.00
Custom Gauge Bezel - Solid one piece brass

Custom gauge panel for most standard gauges --- $150.00

Custom gauge panel for Yanmar gauges --- $275.00

The accompanying diagrams are basic sketches of the
console bubble that Jerry Wells designed for "Fortuna".

Basic top view of console bubble.

Width can be varied to some degree to accommodate desired items or for visual discretion.

Basic side view of console bubble.

Center area could house gauges, under glass with chrome bezel, (Rybovich style).

Or house selected electronics under a flip panel, (as done on "Fortuna").

The panel could also have the items attached to the underside and hydraulically operated
