If I understand the Ethanol problem correctly, the "black goo" goes through the engine and burns ok. The problem is in the after life of the goo, fouling the carb and other parts. What if one was to put in a new (temporary) tank, for example a 20 gal SS and burn that one on last run home every trip? Would the gas burn and clean out the goo, you could mix additives/cleaners? It is not the best fix but might be an easy bandage.

The goo builds up, then hangs up valve train, glues carbs shut, fouls your plugs. Then keep in mind the goo is coming from the tank itself, you can only take so much resin from the fiberglass before fails.
Not sure where you are running to and from, but I was plagued with problem and it is not fun trying to get home when engines are backfiring and running like cr%p, if running at all. Even if you can clear it out after it gets bad, do you really want to kill the engine to save a few buck for a tank. Compound that with a tank failure possibility, it became a no brainer.
