Shaft Making

On the latest issue of Acorn to Arabella they go to a prop shop to see their shaft made. As an amature machinist I always liked to go to Bobby Soles when Robert was there so I could see the workings in the shop.

I bet Carl can do it with his eyes closed. LOL

I am with Bruce, I could walk through shops like that all day watching the work getting done.

Used to machine truck loads of shafts manually and yes I could have done them in my sleep.

With the computerized machines (CNC's)today, just about every shop with a CNC can rattle off a quality shaft in short time without a machinist. Never mind doing it with your eyes closed...you do not even have to be there to do it. Once the machine is set up- Load shaft, press Green Start n come back in 10 minutes when it's done to load another. Price to machine a shaft dropped so much that I just buy them done unless I need several, need them sooner or they are a specialty.

Machining stuff can still be cool to watch...
