B28 being converted to center console

Post by IRGuy »

I saw this today and thought some of you would like to learn about it. Ugly console.

Obviously not for everyone but this is the outcome of this project. Birdsall is building a gap tower for it so close to done. This is my second B28. First was inboard flybridge sportfish that I redid. This one is much different.

That looks great. I like the way it sits - looks like you got the volume of the bracket just right.

This is a wow boat.
If I could afford a second boat, this would definitely be a candidate.
A real day boat, with a lot of hull and a lot of space to accommodate anything...human and non-human.
The speed should be unreal, because the weight has been reduced drastically.
Compared to all other center consoles, this is by very far a dream boat for what it is.
The hard top will even make it look more modern than it actually is.
Enjoy !

PS: I don't know why, but it reminds me of the James Bond mobile.

Thanks guys! Yea gap tower sounds weird but essential a deck mounted, walk around tower that has a 30"-42" gap between the hard top and the platform you stand on. More or less marlin tower vs tuna tower??

This is a video of it running. The props are undersized right now (19P). At 6000 see is running 50mph and burning 26 gph. lots of throttle left. 3000 = 23mph, 10 gph. 3500 = 27, 12.5 gph. 4000 = 32, 15 gph. 4500 = 37 19gph. She is too light right now but I will be adding several hundred pounds to her still

This is a video of her running at about 43mph I believe.

That's the way to recycle an old hull - very nice...

What is under the center console? Looks like they built it for a lot storage.

Make sure you put up the final pictures when she is done. It will look much different than she does now.

The inside of the console is a fluid design as of this point. Essentially what was he entire cabin area floor is under there. The area under the cockpit sole, between the console and seat is rigging and controls. My thought is to have a large tackle locker, a counter top and cabinets and a head.

Thanks guys!

Daytrip,

Is this a bow cleat for a 5ton boat, or is there another one hidden somewhere?
I'm asking, because I remember vividly the clinging noise on the pier cement surface a similar cleat made, only it was still attached to the rope and ...some boat!

Haven't updated the progress here in a while sorry! Tower is being built by Birdsall marine design. Been there two weeks and probably have a week to go. Loving the build! There are a lot more progress shots on the bateau site if anyone is interested

I love the curved incorporated navigation lights and the attention to detail.
By the way, do you know how much this construction weighs?

Thanks yannis, the pipe work is about 200 lbs based on weight/ft. The glass will total about 300lbs. We moved it as you see it and it wasn't too bad.

Very nice and great utilization of space under the console. Speed test lake worth toward Old Port Cove Towers looks like.

Innovation is what makes the world keep turning.

Took a test ride of the tower on the shop floor! The break away hardware goes on the upper section Monday and the hole thing goes on the boat for a fit up Wednesday. Excited to see how it looks

Good job!

Not that you're unaware, but just in case you have forgotten it, you need to be super cautious with the roll up there. It sometimes becomes....scary.
Enjoy your catch!
