Replacement intake screen source??????

Post by Dug »

Hi all,

I installed external strainers when I repowered a few years ago, and they have worked great. I removed the screens to clean them this spring, and they disintegrated. They are bronze. Apparently there has been a run on these damned things, because Hamilton and Jamestown are both back ordered. I had ordered from Jamestown and they won't be in until the 19th at this point. This is clearly keeping me from splashing Alchemy.

Anyone have access to a set of replacement screens they can lay hands on? No mail order houses, as they may all be in the same spot. But actually physically accessing them would be awesome!!!!

they are the 3.5 by 7.2 inch give or take screens.

Many thanks....

Dug,

See if you can match up, or modify, the screen size to the Groco brand external strainers, they're stainless steel...

Might just buy stainless screen from McMaster Carr and cut it to the right size...

Good call Pat.

Thanks,

Be sure that your bonding is good, not only to your through hull fittings, but also to the external strainers. At least one of the screw holes in the strainer should have a through bolt to be connected with the bonding wire... Possibly why your bronze screens disintegrated.

Pat, I think they disintegrated more because of the screw driver I used to push them out. :)

Sounds like you have the old Sendure style strainers that the screen slides into a slotted track on both sides and has 2 screws at the aft end. If so, use a liberal amount of Tefgel in the slots and on the screen edges. Future problem solved...

Dug,

I went through the same thing this spring. It turned out that mine were made by Buck Algonquin which, oddly enough is local, but I had to order as they don't do retail. I think I ordered from an outfit in Miami. Shipping was super fast and I believe the parts were actually shipped by Buck....

You can check dimensions here:
