Faux Teak

Post by PeterPalmieri »

There is a couple of great episodes on Florid Sportsman dream boat showing an L&H having the helm pod and toe rail painted to look like teak and the artists works for Merritt. The Dec issue of Marlin magazine has a great article called Faux Future.

I think a 31 with a toe rail, helm pod, aft bulkhead and transom done this way would be absolutely insane. Even maybe the very edge of the brow on the bridge.

It’s not something I’d ever spend my money on but thought it a fun discussion. The artistry is really off the hook.

I just fished on a friend's Valhalla 33 (awesome boat) that has a faux teak toe rail. It looked perfect. I have no idea how it's made, but it looked great.

My understanding it is fiberglass that is painted.

I watched that video on YouTube and a few others some are done with spray some more done with brushes and some are done with both. It looks like something maybe you try on a small project first. But it’s definitely interesting.

I think Jim Swagler, (not sure if he's on here), just did a faux teak toe rail on his 31 that looks great.
