Redum Cabo 37' Merritt "Black Betty" sinks during Bisbee

Post by MarkS »

From Co-owner Ryan Donovan's Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/redrumcabo?pnref=story We are proud to be a part of a Cabo Family. And here in the fishing world of Cabo San Lucas that family proved their strength and compassion today. It’s with much regret to inform all of you about the sinking of Black Betty in the Bisbee’s Tournament today. All on board are 100% healthy, that’s the most important news!

Black Betty was the newest addition to the RedRum Fleet she was a beautiful 37’ Merritt, one of 12 in the world. The skilled and extremely experienced Captain TJ Dobson along with crew Ryan Donovan and Jerry did everything in their power and knowledge to get everyone home safely. The crew is still dumbfounded as to what the cause of the sinking was. The boat was surveyed 2 months ago and had no issues. There were no electrical or mechanical issues that were known to the Captain or crew, and all safety standards and precautions were implemented as with every RedRum boat. Black Betty was a 1955 beautiful antique and apparently old age and multiple world records to her hull got the best of her. (Pictures taken today).

The RedRum family is sad but is forever grateful to all those that stopped in the middle of the multimillion dollar Bisbee’s tournament to help their fellow fishermen yet competitors in need today. We are humbled and so appreciative of your efforts. Thank you to the crew aboard Cowboy for getting our boys home safely. The show must go on. The team that was once Black Betty will be fishing aboard Maybe Manana in the remainder of the Bisbee’s Tournament. Thank you Cabo Family, you all are the best. Let’s get the big one boys!
