Here are some pictures of the inside of the tank on our B31. Does the sand box think this tank can be used for diesel. Thanks, Les

Thanks Pat, I felt sure of it but it is nice to know for sure. The renovations are going on at a faster pace Tim had a clean report last check up. He is now motivated to the max. Do you have any templates to cut down the engine stringers to install Cummins?

The boat has a 170 gallon tank in it now we plan on adding to the top of it to bring it up to around 220 gallons. What are the grounding straps attached to that are inside the tank? Les

Les,

When fueling there's the potential for a static electricity discharge between the pump nozzle and the filling port. The grounding straps are there to rapidly dissipate the charge without a spark. The tank fittings and the fill fitting must be grounded, even for diesel...

Couldn't we do that externally instead of internally and achieve the same thing? I don't see where the internal straps attach to any thing. Les

It was but is it just glassed to the bottom of the tank, that is all that I can see[img][/img]

Mine is grounded at two points. One is the top of the tank right were the fuel fill hose goes into the tank. That should be a bronze port the hose is attached to. The second is at the top at the fuel fitting where the nozzel from the tank goes.

All of the external grounds will be reinstalled when we finish the retrofit. What I am talking about in the picture above you can see a flat copper strap laying in the bottom of the tank. These straps were tabbed to the fiberglass of the inside of the tank. The one attached to the fill port is glassed to the bottom of the tank, and the rear one on the fuel outlet and sender port, is tabbed into the side of the tank. I do not understand how this could be any type of grounding. Les

By being in contact with the fuel and grounding to the ports, it is drawing off the static electricity that can build up in the tank.
