I don't have tabs----compared to a lot of boats that I have fished on---my boat runs very level--I don't see a need to get the bow down.
There may be a need for listing but don't think its worth it.

Regarding the wider door----I am pretty sure the motor boxes that Cabrara sold with their decks had smaller (width) boxes to accommodate the inline diesels.

I did not remove the bulkhead--but increased the window size to maximum and deleted the door------opened up the cabin and did not compromise the structure.

Thanks for the offer---I have seen your boat at Carver's in the past---haven't been to that part of Jersey in a while----I remember Robinsons had a nicely restored express cruiser and a 20-foot center console that was done by L & H.

Not sure if you are rebuilding your rudder shelf--but if you can move the rudder port---I would suggest to offset so you can remove shaft without dropping the rudder.

I am in process of redoing my panel as well-----original was 5/8 plywood covered in Formica-----lasted 43 years --can't complain.

Joseph Fikentsche' s facebook page shows a twin inboard boat with v-drives and a single motor box.
In some early ads (1961?) they show a twin-engine straight shaft model with two separate motor boxes just like a 31.

With gas motors----which are wider than the inline diesels ----don't think it's possible to access the oil pan for that drain----just did my oil change with the transfer pump----it is a PIA.

I was at this marina last summer and the owner did tell me Alec had a 31 and pointed to a boat that was covered to the waterline------did not see it but had a profile of a Bahia Mar----he told me he never had time to use it.

If I ever downsize to a small single boat my choices would be a 20 foot Bertram or a 23 Formula.

Peter--I never found my tachs that accurate or the harmonics of the props may require a slight difference in rpm to attain that pleasing rhythmic sound. I sync mine by ear. I am sure the new computer controls and digital gauges of today's powerplants are far more reliable than my old school gas big ...

I have been using warm water and sudsy ammonia in a 25% solution with good results----any scrubbing should be across the grain.
You can follow up with a second solution of 25% bleach if you want to brighten the teak.

Carl---actually the 1960 wood moppie (used as a plug for the production boat) had their engines amidship just like ours. Also, the 1961 fiberglass moppie was amidship--there were some race boats with the motors in the extreme aft position running v-drives---but believe this was an evolution to keep ...
