Shoot, Rick, I got stories on top of stories, just have to put some effort into remembering them.

We usually go to the camp on Friday mornings and come back Sundy noon or so and that has the effect of wiping my mind clean as a whistle. Duhhhhh.....

Ricky, something is very wrong with the engine...its rusty, which means it has not leaked & slung sufficient oil to properly coat it.

Agree the governor appears to be a Woodward and agree on the solenoid wire to it. I had a 2-71 railroad generator with a similar governor.

Its a 5 hour trip by car and boat from here to there, an hour by seaplane. I'd always watch the projected storm tracks (they are damn good at it nowdays) and assess the risks...

All of them are two cycle so they fire twice as often as 4 stroke motors....like Bruce says, you can i.d. them 10 miles away. The 71 series is renowned for long life and reliability; the 92 series on the other hand, is a short-fuzed time bomb. Avoid at all costs.

I use the Camp zincs from Hamilton Marine in Maine...they have the copper buttons in them to make good shaft contact. I bought the do-nut style shaft zincs last time by mistake and they cost me a knot.

DD 8V71 weighs in at 2,310# and the 8V92 at a staggering 3,230. The 71 is 51 inches high so you'd need some rather tall motor boxes.

I'd have to get the schmatic out, but its a variable pot in the output stage that "throttles" the output power. You need to have a wattmeter in the antenna circuit to do it right.
