I’ve gotten CNC kit cores from manufacturers and I swore some of it was just pvc trim boards

Komacel and komatex 2 different products same manufacturer
One very much softer than the other
Sizes are in MM and run true, something in a 3/8 equivalent would be fine for the side panels

some may want to paint to match the boat's finish exactly the benefit over glassing over wood or coosa is saving the fairing and finish time if you have a large table to glass on you would still spend as much if not more money to make the panels if you made them out of wood you would want to seal al...

Sign shop supply , or just ask a sign shop to avoid excessive truck freight costs The 1/2” thickness is good There are many pvc boards , some scratch really easy which is why I prefer that stuff. you dont want starboard, besides being ugly it warps, doesnt hold adhesives, resin, paint, doesnt hold screws well either Komacel is availible in 10' sheets, you can get the 2 side panels from one sheet another for across the transom. Re: Gelcoat/Duratec High Gloss Additive Issue

Let me know if you get a different result, but I have my doubts
Gelcoat and duratec is not sensitive like paint, you can literally put it over a greasy surface and it won’t react like paint when a tiny molecular droplet of contamination causes surface issues

There could be the possibility the gelcoat is not compatible with the Duaratec ,this does happen and people who sell the stuff typically do not work with it and have no idea. You will always be “the first time they have heard of that “ Try another smaller batch and see if you get the same result You...

Use komacel for that application, so much better than either of the other boards being discussed Of course if you can get prefinished fiberglass panels that would be good as well but not as easy to get nor as easy to cut You can get 10’ komacel boards , you get 2 panels out of one board and need a s...

this is the advice I give people- if you have a trailer and a way to pull the boat yourself you can take the gamble

if you have to get hauled then why take the chance?

it also depends on usage, water at the dock, etc, what works for one does not work for everyone even if you use the same paint.

The rail is either bolted, or even worse threaded into aluminum plates. Sometimes takes a good day to access all the nuts on the backside. Being that some are spinning and not going anywhere seems likely they are thru-bolted. It’s also not uncommon to have a combo of 2 bolts and one screw if there w...

Re: Bottom Paint question

you can burnish the paints like the sail boat guys do to get a smoother look, if you are going for something that matches the original bertram white you can get micron in "oyster white" but its not copper free so you may get some green tint when its out of the water
