Re: Eastwind 2022
I’ve had discussions on the subject of wood in boats and point to 50 year old perfectly good wood in the boat and say “how much better can we get than that?” I do feel the wood that’s elevated off the hull in a bertram last as long as it did for the fact it wasn’t sitting IN water. Also that the hea...

The transverse I beam is channeled, bolted, sitting on, and glassed to the bulkhead. Then there’s the deck support band running the perimeter. Pete’s deck is 1.5” thick and it has 1.5” supports under it. Yes some parts of it are over 3” thick. The teak deck has zero flex all on its own Originally th...

I had bought a 20+ year old regulator off one of my customers a few years back, he handed me the brand new toilet that he removed from the console on day 1 so he could stuff more gear in there. Here was a center console with a toilet which is what everyone wants ( and law kind of says you need ) and...

Your first 3 pictures look like ice blue, then the other pic looks more green, they are somehow remarkably close to each other even when you have them side by side in the yard. i dont know if you like the look but maybe a sampson post instead of the cleats to get the line up off the deck a bit I actually think it would look better than those 2 old fashioned cleats anyhow or consider refinishing that area in gelcoat, it will allow a bit more wear and when it does go through...

Re: Strut Pads, One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
one important distinction with solid glass is that the boat normally make their way back to the dock. The pads have a tendency to get pushed in so they crack on both sides. WE cut the entire area out and lay up a new section of hull, sounds worse than it is- typically a 2 -3 day job tops once mechan...

Wood in bottoms get wet from the bolts loosening, not just because it’s wood Of course if you hit bottom even a little bit all hardware should be inspected or rebedded . Just because you don’t always see water inside doesn’t mean it can’t be leaking Another good way to tell is during winter layup, l...

Re: Strut Pads, One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
All the large boats we repair that run aground have solid glass pads. Damage is, in my opinion, minimal. Laying the pads up from glass and fiberglass is easy but we also want the sheet material to duplicate the supports for the area between the engine boxes. This supports the hatches and side panels...

using the auto analogy people put cold air intakes for a couple HP but also for the noise- there is an increase in noise which they find appealing. Gives "butt horsepower" now if being baffled behind a vent silences or lessens that great but a good amount of noise does come from the filter itself No...

Pvc and stainless is the way to go. Black rubber will make it look old and cheapen the restoration.
