I had 454s ,in those seas I would cruise at 18-19 kts probably burning 24 or 25 gal/hr. mayt have to slow depending. at troll its hard to say, 5or 6 kts at idle, probably 6gal/hr just guessing there. a 50 mile rountrip run and 4 hr. troll I'd put in a min of 75 gal. now w 6btas same profile maybe 40...

Hey UV- those 250 cummins are fn unreal, 25-26kts at 2400( when I can) 20 at 1900. Ran from Islamorada to Stuart and the fuel gauge was still over 1/2(170 nm). Completely different boat :-D

16k unit from ocean breeze in Stuart, put it under the port bulkhead window under the setee. cools great in the summer was well priced and the only noise is the better half pullin up the comforter in august. 3.5 next gen runs it very well

Just painted Seacheles engine comparment w a water based 3 part awlgrip. Dried much better than bilgecoat and seems pretty tough. Time will tell. not fumy(I lived while applying) and easy to work with

Painted the old one after etching and priming then put stainless cap on with copious tefgel on the screws. 2 years and a few bubbles are showing. Couldn't ask for much more. Pvc on the list maybe next year :?

centek also makes an oval muffler that fits outboard of the stringer is only 7-8 inches tall(fits under cackpit sole and is much cheaper than the tubes. I put 5 inchers in (250 cummins) but they make a 6 incher too. fives were about 300 ea. Bill

Walter, thanks, usually here in S Fla. block heaters wouldn't be a consideration but thus winter has been cold,cold,cold. but 42 degrees doesn't seem to cause a start problem-I will though look at em if I have any problems though, Thnks Bill

Yeah these are early 89 builds I know it was risky but the price was right and they looked to be never used. I've got 4d agms and bam! as Emeril says , they start, no smoke or nuttin. I'll take luck over skill any day

temps were checked via ir gun,I do think we have a bad thermostat , will check monday. the engine sat for a long time -700 hrs on a trawler in Lake Erie 1989 build- not alot of use- hope to rectify that :-)

having had a 28 w small blocks for 12 yers and now a 31 with big blocks it seems to me the real factor is torque. Horsepower give you top speed( my 31 tops at 32 kts-probably 60 gph) at 2800 the boat runs 19kts+/-. so when you use a small block 350hp it still has less torque than a big block and Tha...

guess my question relates to the 250 cummins- one of the mechs said in the low horsepower it was ok, but the 250 with that pump had problems producing the pressure and volume thats why they went to the nippo and bosch pumps.
