Surveyor on LI

I have a friend that's looking for a mid-20s center console with twins. When he finds a boat, he wants to have a surveyor lined up. Any recommendations? Thanks

Re: Glassing Front Windows

Crows Nest had the fiberglass overlay glassed onto the front windshield before Doug bought her in 2002 or so. I glassed over a couple minor surface cracks when I painted her 10 years or so ago, and glassed over and finished the laminate covering the inside. Long and short, yeah, I’d rather have the ...

Around here (mid-Chesapeake) there are a lot of private water front property owners that rent slip space for way less than marinas charge. There have to be a dozen or so just on the creek I live on. Good luck

Re: High tide vs lookout window frames

I redid the frames, and had Maritime Plastics in Annapolis do my windows on the Anna E. All of ‘em. Fronts, curved sides, and big flat side windows. I can’t imagine doing the curved sides. Interestingly, they had to recut one of the front opening windows. They used one side as the pattern and cut bo...

John- Where did you find Captain Pats build on Santiagos boat? I had looked in building tips a couple times for ideas n info. One thing for sure, I'm not glassing the frames...well I say that now. Once things get going directions change. Captain Pat excelled in glasswork, it is not my strong point....

Bertram 20 Rebuild

I'm hoping I can get a lot of advice from this group given all the great rebuilds I've seen. I bought my B20 about 15 years ago. It had been converted to an outboard, and the 1994 Yamaha ran fine. The deck and stringers were wet--really wet--but I figured I'd run it until the motor crapped out. Duri...

Re: I'm curious about the speed ...

Whenever I look for a "new" boat, I check at what speed I can get it to plane off. I've been out too many times when 13-15 knots was as fast as was comfortable, and I don't want a boat that's wallowing around trying to get over its bow wave at those speeds. Same with my B20--it'll plane at about 13 ...

For my old B31, the Anna E., I made my own frames out of 1/4” marine ply covered in f’glass cloth and had plexiglass windows made. Flange/coupler bolts

A transmission flange to coupler bolt sheared on Crows Nest. I’m guessing that the bolts have been on there at least 18 years and are pretty corroded. They’re not stainless. Can I use stainless and locknuts for replacements? Or are the bolts a specific hardness? Should I get them from my local prop/...
