as capt pat said you need a rather hefty compressor to blast a boat.

This is one of those times its best to pay someone to come, tarp the boat and ground off, let them get messy and take thier mess with them.

At about $25-$35 per foot its worth every single penny.

you can just use satin finish if thats what you like

I have sanded and polished satin finish, it just gives you a smoother, imperfection free satin finish.

If you have enough clear on that wood you can just sand and polish it to a gloss finish

just another thought- if you flood the finish you can get solvent pop, which would also be a bumpy finish when you run your hand on it

this would be especially bad if you were working in the sun

agree with capt. pat.. BUT- thier labor rate should reflect this and be a tad lower then a marina that obviously has more expenses.

At least you know where to find them if something goes wrong!

Regular fine line is a pale green, the blue fine line is vinyl more suited for making circles, it costs more and is not needed for doing those simple stripes.

that 233+ tape you have on there now actually makes really good sharp lines.

I would like to hear the results of the flex mold project on a large scale job like that. Personally I would have pre-fabricated panels on a glass table and laminated those into the boat, making slick areas where the hatches were or in between sheets of laminates. the better paints will give you multi-season usage.

but it all depends on your usage, if you use the boat ALOT you wont get any growth regardless so at that point any ablative will do the trick.

I dont think I have ever needed a 2.2 tip, even a 2.0 is a handfull. Spraying thick coatings with that 2.0 they tend to wrinkle because the coating is so thick and it comes out with such a narrow spray pattern. I thought about it after, the price you got was great IMHO and you can do some bilge/motor maintance at the same time.

the boat I mentioned is gas powered, I just sometimes think of the pandora's box when it comes to engine removal.

there was a rotary powered 20 Bertram that toured the country in the 60's, it was called the "rotary special", Popluar Mechanics had something to do with it.

I know the person who owns it and the whereabouts of it today- right here on long island and can be seen once in a while on Lake George.

correct blocking puts all the weight on the keel, the stands are just there for stability.

3 sets of keel blocks is a good idea

I dont know what system he is using, but it sounds like a barrier coat system of another brand.

not sure if you have done it since those pictures, but you need to remove ALL the bottom paint, every last bit.

Where the old shaft logs were does not look like it was ground out far enough- again I dont know if it was changed after those pictures were taken.
