23' Hunter

Reading a nice article in Pro Boat Builder by dan Spurr about history of fiberglass boats, small nice picture of a 23' Hunter, supposed to be the first hull based on Hunt's deep-v hull form.

Has anyone seen one of these in person? The photo is small but man does it look like a neat mini 31' hull

Bob- I always thought the rear facing cowls were to let air out not in? maybe the bottom had already been stripped once before and they either didnt sand it after blasting or they did use skip-sand primer

the blasting creates a polishing effect

awlfair lw is above and below the waterline filler

we had to do blister repair to a 72', I found a nice large tub of the interlux epoxy filler, good for like 3/4" thick and best thing is its easy 1:1 mixture, sands easy as well

use plastic mirror, then you wont have to worry about it breaking. we repair a few run agrounds a year, 50' searay with solid glass strut & rudder pads, 20-25 layers glass, no shims needed when complete- they are not that hard

bob- if you can get weight on the area put wax paper or peel ply and weights on the repair ( cinder blocks ) , it will be as good as you can get it and fool proof. the ply will last you years and years, figure it this way: how many other items on your boat will last 20-25 years? How many electronics upgrades, cushions, canvas, engine and transmissions maintenance, etc.
