Re: High amp fuses on engine starting circuit
Slow blow fuses are available for this type of circuit protection. They'll blow quickly with a dead short, but can sustain brief overcurrent periods without blowing. Also be aware of ignition protected components only in any area fumes can accumulate. This includes fuses and fuse panels. Some are an...

Something i noticed that illustrates the "optimized" theory, If you look at the sheet with the 6lp, it has a "past power" section with 330 horse 454s similar gear ratio as the diesel. The 18x18 prop at the cruise rpm of 3200 is shown as about 72% efficient. Vs the diesel props 18x19, 89.4% efficient...

My boat is a 1969 sport fish, weighs 10,320lbs with mercruiser 454s and full tank of fuel. No water.
I think i could hit 9,600lbs with about 30 gallons of fuel. Boat only no people.

Another factor to consider that is often, if not entirely overlooked, is tip speed. There is a limit to what rpm you can spin a given size propeller before it starts to eat more power to turn, than it generates in thrust. With gas engines(high cruise rpm) , 1.5 trans, and 18" prop, you're near if no...
