Mark- Yanmar and Cummins are both good options. I'm partial to heavy, slower reving diesel and went that way. But had the opportunity for Yanmars come up first I'd have them. Huge part of the decision is parts and good service...you hope you won't need much of either but when you do which is more re...
Mark- I've heard lots of good about Carl at Elite and 31 Bertrams. Other then buying some parts and used deck from him I have no first hand knowledge. I know you said SE Florida, but St Petersburg is only up a little and across the State. http://www.elitemarinestpete.com/ I'd love to see the progres...

I've put in a lot of hours on Amberjack and I've gotta say the best were when we shut down the engines on a calm day and just drifted in the middle of nowhere.
Getting out on the water is great, getting to fish a bit- is better, catching steps up the game, and being able to sit an watch the water full of life...Amazing. It not only recharges the batteries, but the soul. I've never seen them swim through, but our bay is kinda murky...I did get to see a huge...
They look like Stewart Warner Volt gauges. As far as sizes, they are pretty standard. 2” is pretty common, just pull and measure the hole size. Volt gauges are still pretty commonly used and I like knowing if my batteries are charging…you may be thinking amp gauges. Those kinda fell to the wayside. ...
Tony, the first trip I do with the engine covers open. You can hear and see them from the bridge! Yes Carl You can do a dry run alone and listen to everything since you sit above the engines. Up on the bridge I can't always hear or see everything going on. So I take the wife and make her run it whi...
If you invite friends on the first trip out...kudos to you!! 95% of the time I make the 1st trip/ride solo...I want to check out systems, keep an ear on everything to see (hear) if something sounds off. I stop, check temps on hoses, manifold, check gauges, check for leaks etc. The worst thing is hav...
Why wouldn't she Carl, a window is not a structural issue, you may get a bit wet, that's all! Yannis, you make me laugh, why wouldn't she run great? Cause its a boat. I hauled out directly after fishing one season, next year on launching the damper plate let go trying to leave the boat well. The wi...
Yannis- Tony pretty much hit it on the head with Workers Compensation, the insurance to cover a worker should they get injured here. Aside from the industrial machinery we have, a simple fall to the floor walking around working here could incur huge medical fee's. That and the biggest obstacle, we d...
Sounds like a great trip, glad I missed it! I think many of have had those days we say to ourselves...if I get back I;m buying a For Sale Sign and selling cheap, cheap and quick! Maybe just me... Finding someone who will show up is a task...once they show up getting them to work is another issue. Ha...
Cam- I remember hearing about the Beaufort Scale when learning how to read a flag in a Coast Guard Auxiliary boating class many moons ago. The class concentrated on the correlation of Flag status and wind speed to wave height. I think Beaufort stuck as I love the 1973 movie Walking tall with Joe Don...
Yannis- thank you for the clarification. Yes, we have same scale here, although most in my area go informal just tossing out wind speed in mph. 5 and above I avoid going out in. Boat can handle, I’m kinda done with it. Too much clean up and fixing what comes loose. Fishing in it other than on ancho...

My painting skills and knowledge are lacking so going to pass on answering that question. Yup, orientation was the biggest down side I could see mounting panels where you did. The way you have it figured you should be as good or better than before. Nice when technology works in your favor... Hats, o...
That is a no nonsense approach, should work well. Maybe a down side is having to orient the bow to the sun for maximum charging through the day. Having top is nice in high sun, even if just sitting taking views...it does come with a price. The price being cost and it does grab wind. I'm not a fan, b...
Happy Easter! Yannis- I have spent many a year perfecting such a skill. I found eat slow, chew well, enjoy and repeat works best. I will not take responsibility for the enlargement of the waistline should you choose to try this well established method. If done well, you're gonna need a bigger boat. ...
Daniel, Sounds like your a little ahead of me. Donna Summer and Rod Steward are deep in my memory. My family rented a cabin Upstate New York on the Delaware for many summers. Dad and his family rented the cabins since he was a kid. Anyway- - Radio reception was limited to one AM Station with what se...
When I was young, I thought hard rock, played way way too dang loud, was about the only music I really liked, (Think Ted Nugent) but as I matured I found that I like just about any live music where folks are enjoying themselves. Daniel you’re so very right. Big mistake of my youth is believing I ha...
after it sits for a couple of hours, and it gels up it is kind of gross and if Yanis is worried about fried food, this will just put him over the top. Lots of gravies setup when cooled, kinda like pudding. Except this is a butter and sausage dripping pudding, kinda doesn't sound so bad now. We usua...
What I may do, if (seldom) necessary, is I shout out to the rat of the dock, hey 20€ can you clean my gear? It is done automatically!! Hey, I resemble that dock rat guy...except I wouldn't take money, a beer...yes. And only if water was clean, the bay and especially our harbor can get a bit...lets ...
It favorably compares to PropSpeed and is a little cheaper. That is what I heard but no first hand experience. I prefer a good cleaning before launch and use the boat often to keep running gear clean-ish. Not always possible with peoples schedules, boat location, weather etc. I also don't mind jump...
Biscuits as in kind of quick-bread, dinner rolls thing, not like crackers or cookies and not sweet. The Gravy is a Bechamel / White sauce made with the drippings of the breakfast sausage that's broken up and added. When its good...it's real good. Sweet n salty together may be more the Chicken n Waff...
I always thought Mahi were not so finicky. Maybe pull the fragile candy and replace with something a bit more rugged with less flash and heavier leader, little less speed. Maybe a sweet spot where billfish take a pass with the Dolphin still going for it. Sorry, it's hard for me to feel bad for you h...
Chips Tasty and adds to the waisty... Oils and salt are a concern as is acrylamide s, but if I'm having chips or fries I want them crispy. I'd rather skip having a few times and enjoy once in awhile. As for smoking being better, if your reason is acrylamide s, tobacco smoke has several times the amo...
They have those space blankets that look like alum foil that could fit in your pocket….hmm. I might have to get one of those myself. Had a couple frigid nights I wasn’t planning to sleep on boat that one of those blankets would have come in handy. Fishing season so amenities were gone, poles n tackl...
Add a swim platform to save the rudders. Problem solved...lol. After having this conversation I am seeing more and more boats with rudders way out past the transom. Penn Yann did with their tunnel drive, Blackfin yachts, and I just noticed Rampage did the same. There has to be some merit to the desi...
Yannis- Getting the information is appreciated even if I never need to know. It all gets processed into the memory bank of what was done and why. It would be great to be able to do a side by side running comparison between the two build methods to see if there is a clear Best Way. Even if our way wo...
Going up shaft size increases the taper length. As you mentioned Yannis, the distance between back of hub and strut increases keeping around 1/2 the shaft diameter spacing. Additionally, a larger diameter wheel can be a bit longer at the hub. Add it all together, and that room between the shaft, pro...

Besides, by then, October, you suddenly realize you're left alone, schools are open, everybody’s gone, restaurants, nightlife all closed, there is no point in staying any longer.
Other than the cold...being left alone sounds nice
Yannis- Stern-mounted rudders were recently mentioned in JayJay's post, Prop Rake n Attitude. The T on the top of the rudders prevents them from ventilating/sucking air. Not needed when rudders are under the hull in the standard setup.
What did they install for power requiring such a modification?
S Ritzert- Great thing about this site is you do not have to piss up a rope, you have Rick and John with the Reel Cowboy who did what you're considering. Before John, guys had mounted spray rails which worked, but I think took away from the clean lines. If you listen to me you'll have heard me sayin...
No problem Yannis, send me the turbos...you can keep the invoice. I was going to say that crating costs a lot, I wonder why they didn't note customer pickup. But then working with Turbos daily I have a feeling they have so much turbo crating and packaging they are looking to get rid of it any way th...
Spray... The 31 slices through waves, those slices of water/spray follow the V-Shape of the hull's bow area, up and out. What goes up comes down, what goes up n out...you run into with a little wind action and forward motion. If the bow had more flare it would push the spray downwards, if the chines...
