PYI PSS packing gland

Question: What is the expected lifetime of the PYI PSS Dripless packing gland? Is there some type of periodic maintenance I should be doing? The reason for the question is that my port PSS started spraying a good deal of water at about 2700 rpm. I slid the collar down about 1/4 " and it stopped the ...

Boat lift

What brand and size of boat lifts are 31 Bertram owners using at open docks? How are the bunks arranged for the Bahia Mar? I am in no-mans land at Port Mansfield to get a haul out. I'll can spend $5500.00 for a brakeless trailer that I will only use 3-4 times a year plus I have to find a place to st...

Alm tank treatment

I used a Benjamin Moore product.

I applied a cleaner first I can't remember the name but it was a BM product. Then I applied two coats of a two part paint.

"Polyamide Epoxy Coating Gloss".

This is a heavy duty commercial Industrial paint.

I am well satisfied. - RH

Capt. Mike you are correct. I was boarded by the coasties a couple of weeks ago. They wanted to see ALL of my documents. There are so many required documents for charter captains I have them in a back pack. Three guys go over everything, and asked for my drug test card. I have that at a cost of $60 ...

I am in need of a set of Bertram emblems.

Sometime back, before the new site, this question came up and sources for the emblems were listed.

If anyone remembers these contacts please let me know. - RH

Fuel Tank cleaning

Ernest, I purchased a portable ALGAE-X TK-180XT Tank cleaning and fuel polishing system. It works great. I plan on being in the Houston area around August 20. If you are still having problems I can bring my ALGAE-X unit and put an end to your bad fuel problems. Just let me know if you are interested...

South Texas Red Snappers

Mike & Ernest, I would like to offer my $0.02 here if I may. I currently get most of my income operating off shore charters out of Port Mansfield, TX. About 80% of my charters target Red Snapper. 95% of these snapper trips are in Texas waters and it normally takes about 4 hours dock to dock to catch...

Helm Station

Mike, I saw a picture of " Sirina's" helm station and called Tom Slane in January trying to locate the mold. Tom told me to e-mail cabreaskits. I did send an e-mail but received no response. I would like more information on the helm station and the availability of a cockpit deck for the Bahia Mar. -...

Yanmars

There are a couple of items I failed to mention. The Yanmar tachs are crap. I have one that is 200-250 rpm off at WOT. So use your ears. The other is, I totally spray each engine about once a month (while still warm) with the 50/50 potion of CX and lacquer thinner. They both still look almost new. -...

I have a pair of Yanmar 4LHA-STE 230 hp engines with over 2200 hrs on them. I have close to 1000 hrs on the current belts and have only tighten them twice during that time. The secret as I see it, keep all nuts & bolts tight and use top quality belts of the proper size. The rest is clean air, clean ...

Wiper Motor

Thanks guys, I ordered the API-2000.

After I hit a low floating fence post last year I like to be able to see the best I can. A wiper motor is cheap compared to a bent shaft, strut, prop and rudder.

UV, Thanks for your response. I had a bottom job (pressure wash, sand and painted) both shafts and couplers pulled and engine alignments done along with props cleaned. Dirty exhaust water

I have twin 230hp Yanmars. Does anyone know what would cause the exhaust water to be dirty brown? This new condition occurs while under load. - RH
