The B31 rules!
We fished the final leg of the Georgia Governor's Cup billfish series this past weekend out of Savannah, GA. No blues were caught, and only two sails... And we didn't see a billfish.
We did win the tournament on the basis of meat fish points. That won us 9,200 bucks, (we left $7,700 on the table because I didn't get in all the caluttas). On Saturday, we had two wahoo in the boat by 8:30 AM, one 36, one 43. At 12:15 PM, I grabbed the downrigger out of the cuddy, and put a black on black Islander with a horse ballyhoo on 300 lb fluorocarbon, & down to 55 feet.
Approximately 3 minutes later, it went off. Approximately 35 minutes later, I stuck the fish with a perfect gaff shot. Turned out to be a 123.2 lb wahoo breaking the GA state record by 10 lbs!
If you fished all four legs of the Governors Cup, and broke the dolphin or wahoo record, you win $100,000. YAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!
If I can't show off to my B31 buddies, who can I show off to?
Onboard for this monumentous day were my fellow co-owners Dr. Jim Clifton, Garland Nessmith, guest Allan Proctor and our winning angler, Mike Stefanick. (Who is still looking at the fish in seeming disbelief).
