Im doing my tank mock up now and I am thinking about the same problems,I would lose to much fuel capacity If I went with a rectangle tank beetween the stringers,so Im looking to make somthing that would use both the stringers and the hull togeather like the original.Do your stringers support your tank at all??.
How did you resupport your deck?
If you feel you need more support how is the foam gonna help.??
