Phil,

You'd only be adding to the thickness of the fiberglass with more fiberglass. Essentially still a single matrix without composite strength & just as flexible as before...

The inside of the bridge wings will never see water, short of sinking, and no readily available material has the strength to weight ratio of plywood. So this is one of those cases that using plywood, even CDX, makes perfect sense,
