Tach Trouble

So we fired the motors up last night and low and behold the new Ocean Line VDO gauges I wired up arent working. Dropped in the old Vangaurd and it works like a champ.
Question is how does Cummins (2003 6B 330hp) feed the tach sense wire. I assumed it was off the alternator, the new Ocean Line is supposed to be the direct replacement yet to no avail I couldn't get it to work.
Has anyone else had luck with replacing the old style gauges with new.
