You need to sand because the West leaves a film that paint won't stick to. I believe its called Amien Blush. Once you roll or spray the high you should have most of the pin holes under control, hit the high build with 120 to level and allow it to accept 545 (yes you have to sand to scratch the surface and allow the primers and paint to stick)Shoot the 545 or brush/roll and sand with 320 then you can paint the finish coat. The only time you don't sand between coats is when spraying after tack coats.
REMEMBER AWLGrip is not good for bilge applications. By that I mean if you plan to use AWLGrip in an application that is going to always be wet it is not the best choice, you'd be better off with a plain Bilgekote.Good Luck
