Speed , Speed who cares. I just do what Bruce says run 20 Knts. not MPH in all my fishing ventures. Can't go any faster in most seas unless you want to shake everything loose and give yourself self inflicted back pain. Wrong boat if you want to go fast get a center console go fast boat and get even wetter with no roof over your head! Nuts I say. Safe speed and have extra for an emergency. Mine goes 24 KTs wot or 28 MPH with a displacement of almost 18,000 lbs( Military hull , big big stringers & extra thick hull)a lot of canvas mine 's like dragging a sail but I'm cool in the hot Florida sun. So some of us are just fisherman and that's why we have a Bertram 31.I just let all those "go fast" boats pass me up but they high tail back after dark. I don't . I have creature comforts Ha!Pushing these hulls too much is nuts! They simply were not made for that. The low profile ones will go faster however.
Now if you want to go fast in comfort Bertram sells some nice new hulls 36, 39 etc.They are made for that in mind. Above 35 MPH not knots you are risking injury to yourself and others with our hulls plain and simple.Sometimes I gotta get it out... Dave K
