Ditto what Bruce says. The Delo 400 15W40 is fine. Main thing is to use the multi grade 15w40. Cummins did a test years ago on the oils for use in the 6BTAs and the 15w40 rated way better than single grade oils, much less oil consumption. My 6BTA 250s have over 2,000 hours, and altho the book says you can run the oil 250 hours between changes, I find that up to about 100 hours they use none, zero, oil, but over 100 hours the oil consumption starts to rise. I figure it's the diesel fuel blow by diluting the oil rather than oil break down.
