A bunch of us from this board fished this Tournament this weekend:
Capt Tom Ward Rummrunner B38
Capt Charlie Haws
Capt Harvy Friedman
Jimmy Gatto Fighting Angel B31
Fred Haas Catequipt B31
Joe Zacharelli Gina L B31
John Dunker
John Formica
Sy Friedman
Myself Crows Nest B31The tournament is a Mako tourney with other species eligible for lesser prizes. Porbeagle Sharks are treated as Mako's.
There were 213 boats in the tournament. Most were 40 plus foot canyon runners. Joe Zacharelli caught the biggest Mako day one/Friday 282lbs and fishing was called of on Saturday due to extremely rough conditions. It lay down a "little" yesterday and fishing resumed-only a few boats went out. Joe was one of those and he caught another 245lb mako. This was hardcore fishing guys-4 plus foot seas all day long drifting with a chum slick out- getting a 245lb mako into a 31 isn't easy in dead calm seas. I just checked the website www.southjerseymarina.com and they have most of the results posted. From what they have up so far Joe & crews payout is $112,401. Congratulations Joe. I glad one of the brotherhood won. For those of you who don't know Joe he is the man behind Jk's Sea Nile reconstruction- he does incredible work on 31's. We were all rooting for the standings not to change yesterday. One of the guys said you have fished 27 tournaments and never won anything. What a way to finally hit it !On a side note we all ran into b31.com expatriot Mike Linus (former owner of Hucklebuck a b31 sportfish). He grabbed a bunch of us Saturday night and took us to see his new boat a 40 ft Liberty. Man was she gorgeous- even Tom Ward was drooling. A great weekend was had by all.
