Ric,
Great to hear from you....it's been a long time. Regarding the Yanmar 6LPs, I'm a low time user and only have 600 hours on mine. Mine still runs like the day I sea-trialed it in the spring of 2001; it's still smooth, quiet and fast, and I turn within 50 RPMs at WOT as I did at the original sea-trial. I've used a fuel additive recommended by the Yanmar folks here called "Marine Formula" by FPPF. Don't know that I need it, but I figure it's a cheap form of preventive maintenance. I use Shell Rotella T 15W-40 HD oil, change the oil and filters (and zincs and impellers) every 100 hours (the first service was at 50 hours). I run Texaco Haveline Dex-Cool in the cooling system, and ATF Dexron in the trannies. I run Racor Model 900 MA with 30 Micron #2040 filters. At 500 hours I had Bruce perform the turbo-wash along with the rest of the service, and I had him check the valves. One of the guys here (Stan) had an issue with his valve adjustment, but Bruce said mine were fine. A valve inspection and adjustment (if needed) are recommended after the first 50-100 hours (Bruce will correct me if I've mistated or missed anything). My raw water pumps are showing a minor dripping from the housing that I just noticed last weekend, so I need to have that looked at. Otherwise, the Yanmars continue to run great with no service issues other than scheduled maintenance.
