That's good news Tom. According to the engineer that built it it was designed for base station use primarily but will work guyed on a boat real well.On larger boats side bulkhead mounting will negate the need for guys. It makes sense on the performance issue. The coils used add a little more electrical length than the 9 db Shakespear. By they way I got the rundown on how they rate marine antennas in the gain catagory and it sure is in an inflated number. In real gain that antenna is 5.0 dbd (over a dipole)excellant# and 7.6 dbi (gain over isotrophic which is a theorectical little ball radiating equally in all directions) Anyway enough of the background data. It is a very good antenna. Did you use a standoff at the 44 inch point from the bottom as they prescribed?
