I have quick connects on the end of my struts. they have a single pin with a ball bearing lock and a keeper ring so I don't loose them when I pull them out. Any good canvas shop should have these and I would suspect would bolt right on to the existing mounts.1/4" aluminum for all my backing plates. The sized depended upon the load. For example, the Radar arch used 16x8 pieces on the inside of the fly bridge sides. I was able to get scraps from friends and just cut them to shape. I used 3M's 4000 to bed them against the inside of the fiberglass and then coated the whole thing with C/X once it had set up. It may be a few years before I can tell you how well it's holding up, but in year 2, still looks like new with no crazing of the gelcoat around the mounts.
