Walt & Josh,
Unfortunantly, spam and spammers are a way of life on the Internet. There is vertually nothing that will cease their existance. Like roaches, ants, and flies, their erradication is an impossibility.
This particular asshole will, in time, go away as others have in the past. I check the board numerous times daily and delete his messages. Deleting the topic from the index is dangerous due to the very ease of corrupting the index itself. That happened a couple of years ago when I deleted a topic from the index and the script generated a whole new index starting from scratch. That also killed the ability to search all messages prior to that point...
My only viable option if this scumbag doesn't drift off into cyber space is to dump this board and start fresh with one of the many php or ubb style boards similar to thehulltruth or boatdiesel boards, requiring anyone who posts to pre-register & use a password.
Not only do I dislike the need for passwords, but the style of those boards is more difficult to follow since each topic is compartmentalized and all replies are stacked below the original post in descending order.
It may yet come to that, but in the meantime just ignore the gnat. If you click up one of his posts, you'll see that there's no message behind it.
The other problem with spammers is that all of the information that they leave behind, email address & IP numbers are usually bogus. I've actually tracked the various IP addresses that are recorded for him and the traces come up all over the middle east and far east. Iran, China, Malaysa, Sinapore, etc...
Better days will come.
