In Response To: fiberglass tanks (Pete)

There are alot of questions about ehtanol in fiberglass tanks. One thing that bothers me the most is that looking at the effect of fresh E-10 in a new tank in good condition does not answer all the "What-if's" regarding older tanks, perhaps with slight damage...say pinholes or damaged gell coat on the inside surface. Or areas where baffles are attached that may allow a blistering sort of failure to get a foot hold?

And then what about problems if phase separation should occur? The puddle on the bottom will have much more than 10% ethanol, and this is well known to be corrosive to many materials, probably fibergals gesins as well.

Just looking at the best case scenario is insufficient. Goofs, screw ups, unusual circumstances and the failure modes that can occur as a result are important to understand as well.
