No problem on installing electric pumps.
Get the marine UL approved only not the 20 dollar auto parts store units.
While the cheaper units will work fine, they don't have the spark protection you need.

Carter pumps are used quite a bit on OEM applications including Marine Power.
They are a vane style pump.

Make sure you place them after the filter, as the small screen the carter has as a filter will clog over time.
