The control cables are plastic coated with wire outside wrap of the moving cable.

If you tighten it to much it will crimp the outer wrap and leave the control too tight and will not rebound after loosening.

Some morse controls have the lever brake built in the controls. It is under the cover and is a much better way to go especially if you are replacing the controls.
Some controls had those parts left out and you can retro fit them.

Go with the twin SR controls.
