I had exactly the same problem. First, there are at least 2 spring attachments on the Yanmars, make sure you are on the weaker one. For the first year i had a bungie on one throttle. There are no rebuild kits available. Rumers were that some sort of law suit/damage from a rebuild and Morse took the kits off the market. 6 years ago, I don't think the friction clamps were available from Morse. Several mechanics told me to just crimp the cable, which I really did not want to do. After having the controles apart several times and fooling with the tinsion adjustment, I finally just tightened the daylights out of the adjusting screw. I figured if it broke, it was time for new controls. To my amazement there was major improvement. It will not hold WOT but it will hold steady up to about 3000 RPM, which is enough. I have been at this stage for 5 years now. But I think I will get a set of the friction clamps. They look like the way to go.
