Rick,
Our boat's at Kent Narrows and we live in Centreville in Queen Anne's County. I have located one fabricator who claims to have a mold and dimensions for a B-28 tank (they didn't say which one of the three that were used before 1986). They want $1300 for the 185-gallon tank, USCG and ABYC ok'd. That's steep, but if you want the name of the fabricator, let me know (I have the info at home...I'm in the office now). Also, on the bladder. I've been emailing a B-35 owner out of Herrington South who says he's going that route. He has a mechanic at Herrington who claims it's the way to go. My problem with that is the B-35 will require cutting the cockpit deck (unlike the B-28, which has a screwed-in deck), and by the time you lift the deck, cut and clean the tank, add the bladder, and throw all of that crap back together, you might was well spend the same money on a brand new tank!
By the way, my experience with emailing Bertram for anything regarding older boats is: it's useless. The "new" Bertram (Feretti) doesn't even have the dimensions/specifications for our older boats, let alone the tank specs. ONe guy to at least talk it over with is Danny Pietra at High Tide Marine, a Florida outfit that specializes in older Bertram parts. (www.bertram-parts.com)He told me a few weeks ago that he was probably going to get a mold for one of the (3) B-28 tanks, and could have a new (ethanol-proof)fiberglass tank fabricated for me. I have not talked with him since, but he knows his Berts.
