Spam Solutions?

Hi Gang,

The spam is really upsetting. Capt. Patrick is there a chance you can get the IP address the spammer is using? It is probably being put here by a bot. If you find his IP address or ISP, we would have a place to complain about the spamming. If we got really lucky we could actually find out who the spammer is.

You might also want to upgrade the forum software to a forum that will let you easily delete posts. I have been using freeware called YaBB ("Yet another bulletin board") and it works well and so far no spam. Send me an email if you want a link to the forum to check the features.

It really is a terrible feeling to have your site spammed. But the freedom and anonymity of the internet is one of its greatest features and biggest drawbacks. I really don't think that there can be any real policing of this type of stuff, since the spammers always seem to operate out of some lawlwss place like Bosnia or the Philippines.

The internet is like a place with no sovereignty. There is no actual law or police . . .its just a bunch of servers hooked up together. And no nation will spill real blood about spam or internet piracy - no matter how offensive. It makes me wish there was some secret hit squad that would cross international borders and "deal with" the spammers.
