Had a call to work on a new boat that had low rpm problems on their Yanmars with Teleflex electronic controls.
They had tried everything and everyone else in town and trickled their way down to me.The controls were ripped apart, major engine work done at only 60 hrs looking for the problem.
Nobody had anything good to say about Yanmar and Teleflex.
I told the over paid Capt to run the boat while I looked at the engines. In a second I saw the problem.I grabbed both throttle arms and pushed and we instantly gained the missing rpms.
The throttle actuaters were not opening 100%.
A simple reprogram of the ecm fixed the problem. The moral.
Just because everything is going electronic, don't over look the simple things first like full travel on the throttle arm.On the Cummins controls I had a problem with some months ago, I found a pin in one of the connectors pushed out.
The factory wanted me to rip out the whole system and send it back for repairs.
A look for the simple things can save a lot of time and aggrevation.
