In Response To: recourse (Mike Moran)

But who is really to blame?

Bertam (and others) could not have foreseen the use of ethanol in fuel and planned for it. In fact, if they had who is to say that those fuel tanks (ss or plastic) would not have required replacement by now?

Is it the governments "fault"? They serve the greater good and ethanol stretches our domestic fuel supply and reduces emissions, both good things. And the group that is being effected is relatively small. That is, the owners of 20+ year old, gas powered boats with fiberglass constructed fuel tanks. A pretty narrow sliver of society.

I would guess that if and when ethanol is added to diesel a larger number of vessels will be effected and at a greater cost. Making it a tougher "sell" for the government. At this time I don't percieve it as "fair" to punish the owner of a 38' Hatteras just because the owner of a 31' Bertram is suffering.

I'm no expert on this topic, so I welcome differing opions and corrections. I'm thinking you guys have probably already beat this horse to death a time or two though.

And of course I'd be singing a little different song if I were under gas power.
