Mack; I got nervous . I had 1 valve freeze and decided that was enough. I took the head off and the push rod was not bent but the lifter must have collapsed and the rod dislogged. I didn't want to take any chances as the engines only had 160 hrs on them, 440 chryslers, I took all the heads off, carbs, had them redone and put new fuel pumps on.I then figured it was because of the ethaNOL, but my tank looks clean but is a 1962. I got so confused with the ethanol situation and our short season up north that i figured the heck with it. When it happened, i had a neighbor on board who has a big auto supply co. with machinists, so he took samples of the oil and fuel and gave them with the gas and oil filters to his hastings rep. who was going to have them analyzed, but the rep. talked to other marine yards, distributors, and marine related suppliers who confirmed what the ethanol was doing to marine engines, not just bertrams but hatts, fortiers, many yamaha outboard engine filters and gas lines, and many marine gas hoses.I changed anything that came in contact with the ethanol. Sorry for the not encouraging comeback, but thats what are findings have been out on eastern LI NY.Here in Montauk LI we have approx. 12 31,s and i know of 5 gassers that have had new tanks put in over the winter.Of the 12, 4 or 5 are diesel. Good luck
