Interesting Ethanol Fallout

I had a strange day today. I ran into some old friends (separately), and in the casual "how's work going" conversations I've found that each of them are busy as hell thanks to our good friend Ethanol. I didn't bring it up, just listened and smiled.
The first works as a mechanic at a lawn and garden tool place and they're up to their ears in lawnmowers, leaf blowers and chain saws that won't start after the winter. Gummed up carburetors, softened fuel lines, dissolved fuel pumps, etc.
The second was a freelance motorcycle mechanic who says that he's busy replacing fuel lines on motorcycles as all but Harley's seem to be slowly dissolving from the ethanol fuel.
The third was an outboard guy who was busy changing diaphrams on fuel pumps as they seem to be getting flabby and not pushing enough fuel due to their being softened by the Ethanol in the fuel. He claims you'll limp back but the operative word is limp.
Strangely, none of the customers seem to realize it's the ethanol, and blame it on the winter, "it's due", etc....and no one's telling them either. It's a windfall for the mechanics...and it's not even summer yet!
I can't believe that the magazines and newspapers that profess to be consumer advocates haven't written any of this up as a public safety issue. Guess it's going to take some leaking gas on a hot engine or two to catch their interest. Walter
