That style is almost always common only to the early sixties. It does have a larger surface area than the other stock rudders, but is still inefficient because of the lack of surface area at the lower tip. It's that area that is more critical for slow speed control, single engine trolling, or in case of a downed engine...

Your hull numbers would place you at around a late '63.
